Arise African Fashion Week together with Ghana Fashion Weekend highlights the ambivalent relationship Africa designers have with the rest of the world. Both events brought together top designers from all over the African Continent.

Ghana Fashion Weekend showcased some wonderful designs by 30 local and international designers. The models displayed the best in catwalk and showcased color, glamour, poise, splendor and style to wild applause by an audience that thoroughly enjoyed themselves. According to the organizers Exopa the industry focused show was to explore, boost interest and attract investments into the fashion industry in addition to offering corporate firms the opportunity to showcase their products.

Among the many dignitries that brought a lot of attention to the event was Boris Kodjoe, a Ghanaian Hollywood television star, was the guest for the GFW 2009, who called on the corporate world to support the fashion industry.

The story at the Standton Convention Center in Johannesburg was no different. When the history of Africa Fashion Week 2009 is written, the week show piece will undoubtedly go down as the biggest and arguably the best nights of fashion the African Continent has seen to date.

The doors opened and the crowd poured in, filling all the seats in the venue. The overhead lights dimmed, making the runway shine. The designers showed an immaculate attention to details.
